Birds of a Feather – Clinton Aide Accused of Influence Peddling

Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s former top State Department aide, is now mired in controversy.

The Inspector General has discovered that Abedin, who currently serves as the Vice Chairman of Clinton’s 2016 campaign, was over paid by close to $10,000 during her 2009-2012 tenure on then Secretary of State Clinton’s State Department staff.  The IG’s over-payment claim has been highlighted in a letter from Senator Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) to Secretary of State John Kerry. In the letter Grassley alleges that Abedin, who had been designated a “special government employee”, a status which permits individuals who fill “an unmet government need for rare or unique expertise” to simultaneously hold a position in the private sector while receiving compensation from the government, took advantage of her status to provide favors to her other two employers at the time, the Clinton Foundation and the consulting firm, Teneo Strategies.

Abedin, the wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY), who famously caused a scandal by “sexting” images of himself to a woman, is now experiencing her own scandal.  Abedin is under fire for having used her position to request an appointment at The White House for Judith Rodin, a Teneo client, who was President of the Rockefeller Foundation at the time.  Teneo Strategies was founded by Douglas Bond, a longtime aide to Bill Clinton. Apparently Bond sent Abedin an email pushing for the Rodin White House Meeting in which he cited the hundreds of millions of dollars in donations which the Rockefeller Foundation provides to the Clinton Foundation.

Abedin is under scrutiny for receiving a $33,000 payment for “unused leave time”.  Supposedly, Abedin never took a sick day during her tenure. Didn’t anyone think that was strange? However, as it turns out, Abedin actually used her leave, which means that she should not have received the $33,000 payment.  Just when you think this situation couldn’t get any worse, it turns out that Abedin’s State Department email account included over 7,000 emails with Bond or where Bond was referenced. In addition, Abedin is one of several Clinton staffers who hosted an email account on Clinton’s private server in her New York home.  Furthermore, The State Department has not responded to a two year old FOIA request for Abedin’s emails.

Is anyone really surprised by any of this?

Abedin’s “special government employee” designation was clearly a stretch.

Technically speaking Abedin was simultaneously receiving compensation from the State Department, The Clinton Foundation and the Clinton disciple-run organization, Teneo Strategies.  Furthermore, has anyone questioned the ethics of this situation and the practicality? How could Abedin hold three jobs at once? Once again, we have corruption at the top with Abedin’s boss Hillary Clinton who has a documented laundry list of scandals including Benghazi, The Clinton Foundation’s finances, and of course the infamous private email server. The fact that Clinton is still the 2016 Democratic frontrunner boggles the mind. She should be in handcuffs for her actions and questionable practices. Is it any wonder that her employees like Abedin have no scruples about breaking the rules? This just goes to show, wherever Hillary goes, she breeds scandals and dirty politics.
