It seems that maybe Donald Trump isn’t so crazy-fringe when it comes to the problem of illegal immigration and the dangers posed by “Sanctuary Cities.”
A recent Rasmussen poll of the national mood on illegal immigration found some “surprising” numbers (surprising at least for the liberal media).
Sixty-two percent (62%) of Likely U.S. Voters think the U.S. Justice Department should take legal action against cities that provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 26% oppose Justice Department action against sanctuary cities. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.
Fifty-eight percent (58%) believe the federal government should cut off funds to cities that provide sanctuary for illegal immigrants…
The majority of voters in most demographic categories agree that the Justice Department should take action against sanctuary cities and the government should cut off all aid to those cities…
Most voters across the racial spectrum generally support the get-tough policies with sanctuary cities, although black voters are slightly less in favor of cutting all aid.
Folks, this is what we call a landslide in the political vernacular.
62% of Likely Voters think that the federal government should get involved and shut down the lawlessness in these “Sanctuary cities.” That would be what the political prognosticators describe as a “winning issue” for anyone willing to take up the cause against these liberal criminal havens. However, most politicians today are not brave enough to stand up against illegal immigration because they are worried that the media and the illegal immigrant lobby will eat them alive for doing so. Cue Donald Trump. A man not known for being intimidated… by anyone. Trump has in recent days said some very accurate (and apparently popular) things in a not-so PC manner – which has led to him taking a drubbing in the media. Oddly, even as Trump is getting roundly attacked across every media outlet… his poll numbers continue to rise.
Could it be that once again the media has misread the public’s position on an issue? It sure seems that way, and this latest Rasmussen poll adds credence to the idea that many Americans are fed up with illegal immigration and the liberal rush to assist illegals in their lawlessness.
