Science should be an apolitical venture. We should be able to trust that as science moves and works, it does so with a blind eye to the political climates that surround its work. I think that we are learning, slowly, that this is, at the very least, a hopelessly optimistic idea. Throughout history, science has constantly been at the beck and call of the political leadership class – whether it was the church in the Middle Ages, or nobility during the Renaissance, or Democratically created institutions in our day and age. Science is always being poked, prodded and manipulated by politicians.
The current saga over whether or not humans have played a “significant” factor in climate change is just more proof of what history has taught us.
I don’t think we should be too harsh with these scientists. They are, after all, only trying to “survive.” The problem is not the scientists that have been employed to conduct these scientific investigations. The problem is that we have tasked huge, poorly managed government entities with overseeing their work. Millions of dollars get poured into research that has finding a “certain” outcome in its own best interests. If the climate scientists continue to report the devastatingly terrifying news that humans do indeed play an important role in “global climate change,” then their research continues to get its sorely needed funding. We’re not just talking nickels and dimes either folks… there are Billions (with a B) of dollars at stake for these scientists and their research organizations.
The latest climate report from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says that it is 95 percent certain mankind is the main driver behind rising temperatures. 95% certain. Aren’t you glad that they used these exact figures for us? There are a bunch of problems with the report, but the main one is that they UN simply skates by the obvious problem. Global temperatures stopped rising about 15 years ago, even though we have been pumping more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than ever. Every climate model has been wrong. There were no global warming alarmists who predicted what has been happening for the last 15 years, and yet they are steadfast in their beliefs… the science be damned.
This obvious problem with their data and their conclusions has led more and more rational thinking people to realize that the global warming movement was nothing more than a callous money maker for astute politicians like Al Gore. Most recently, a renowned climate scientist at MIT spoke plainly about the UN IPCC report.
“I think that the latest IPCC report has truly sunk to level of hilarious incoherence,” Dr. Richard Lindzen told Climate Depot. “They are proclaiming increased confidence in their models as the discrepancies between their models and observations increase... [I]n attributing warming to man, they fail to point out that the warming has been small, and totally consistent with there being nothing to be alarmed about,” Lindzen said. “It is quite amazing to see the contortions the IPCC has to go through in order to keep the international climate agenda going.”
The entire article is well worth a read, as Dr. Lindzen roundly refutes the UN IPCC report. He also takes to task the various explanations used to explain the utter stop in warming over the last 15 years, as the climate models being wrong are simply proof that the scientist’s pre-suppositions were wrong all along. As more and more time passes, the global climate change alarmists grow exceedingly shrill in their attempts to convince the rest of the world that the sky is falling. At some point one hopes that the alarmists will be forced to eat their words and apologize to the rest of us for holding us hostage to their ridiculous global warming religion for so long.
