Ted Cruz Rebukes Staffer for saying a Reporter is “Nice”

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) recently sat down for an interview with the Blaze’s Glenn Beck and during their conversation he gave some great insight into what it is like to be a conservative politician forced to deal with a liberal media. Cruz’s honest answer to one of Beck’s questions even had the host wondering in amazement at the Senator’s deep cynicism towards the media.

The story begins with Cruz explaining the problem most Republicans have when dealing with the media.

“You see Republicans when they’re interviewed by left-wing reporters, and they get afraid. They want them to like them. They are not going to like us! They hate us.”

To explain what he meant he told a story about a recent interaction he had with one of his staffers who had remarked that a certain member of the media was very “nice.” Cruz used the statement as a teachable moment, stopping the staffer and saying, “‘You know what? No, she’s not [nice]. She wants to destroy you. Nothing would make her happier than to take your life and filet you on the front pages. And don’t think for a minute that because she smiles and is friendly to you, that it’s anything else.’”

Beck seemed visibly startled by the story asking Cruz if that kind of mindset wasn’t “cynical.” (Though Beck said he agreed 100%.)

Cruz responded by agreeing but “when the sheep are walking among the coyotes, it pays to be cynical. The job of the main stream media, as they see it, they are partisans, they are protecting Barack Obama and they are ready for Hillary Clinton…”

Sadly, Cruz is 100% correct, and far too many Republicans have drifted to the Left in an effort to please their critics in the media, instead of learning to articulate and defend the conservative position. Cruz is an oasis in the dessert when it comes to conservatives dealing with the media, and I am so glad he’s out there doing his thing. (Here’s another example of Cruz showing Republicans how to deal with the media.)
