Our Beautiful and Just Declaration of Independence

Over a decade ago (2003) about a dozen famous actors were brought together by the famous filmmaker Rob Reiner to produce a short film reading of the Declaration of Independence.

What came together was a truly stirring multicultural reading of the Declaration. You’ll have to excuse the fact that many of the collected actors are true-blue liberals, who, while giving a wonderful reading of that very important founding document, seem to have completely missed the spirit of the thing. The Declaration of Independence is a call to liberty from oppressive government, and for the opportunity to live our lives in pursuit of happiness without bending to the will of others around us, living in community with our neighbors, not because the government has forced us to do so, but because we choose to do so of our own free will.

The Declaration of Independence is wonderful evidence of where our nation and our beliefs once were and a sad marker of how far we have fallen.
