I often tell people that the reason that liberals compete so well against conservatives is because they have no need for facts or logical arguments. Liberals simply spout random problems followed by heartfelt pleas to fix said problem, sprinkled with a government-run “solution” to said problem. Meanwhile, as a conservative, I have facts, figures and maybe even a graph explaining why the liberal plan CAN’T work, and the conservative option of allowing the free market room to operate is the best option. The problem is that the “short attention span” generation prefers passionate arguments (even when they’re wrong) over logical arguments that have to be thought through… so liberals like Bernie Sanders can say things like this and get away with it.

“You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers when children are hungry in this country.” – Sen. Bernie Sanders
There is no connection between the market offering a multiplicity of option and poverty. In fact, if there were a connection it would be this… the more options that that a free market can afford to offer, the more likely that poverty is less of a problem for you than for other nations. Think about it. If the economy in your area is robust enough that several companies can offer dozens of options of a product and still be profitable, then it’s likely that your economy is doing well enough to keep poverty at a minimum.
Limiting the amount of options available would do nothing to help keep someone out of poverty. Nothing. What Bernie Sanders is saying is that forcing people to spend more of their money on government welfare programs would mean that deodorant companies or sneaker companies wouldn’t be able to survive because people would have less disposable income. In Sanders’ mind, it is better to take your money from you and use it for welfare than to allow you to use your money as you see fit.
It’s the liberal perspective on “charity.” Forcing people to partake is a necessary hazard of the newspeak form of “charity.”
I was angry after having to suffer through Sanders’ dimwitted view of economics, but then Remy from Reason TV released this fake PSA and now I can smile again. Watch and enjoy.
