I will admit that thus far in the campaign I have been unsurprised by most of what I have seen on the GOP side of the aisle. But there have been a few surprises from the GOP, particularly from the candidate from California, Carly Fiorina. Fiorina has shown herself to be an energetic, intellectual and engaging candidate, and she has led the way in offering opposition to the Democrat’s presumptive candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Every opportunity to speak to the public that she’s had over the last few months have had moments where Fiorina doggedly attacks the Clinton campaign. In fact, her best moment at this year’s CPAC (back in February) was when she took a potshot at Clinton’s lack of any real accomplishments.
She also offers a brilliant foil for Democrat Hillary Clinton. One of Fiorina’s best moments came while focusing her attacks on the former First Lady and likely Democrat Presidential candidate.
Of Hillary, Fiorina said, “Flying is an activity… not an accomplishment!” Like Clinton, Fiorina has travelled the world but unlike Hillary, Fiorina has a record of accomplishments (like successfully running a HUGE corporation).
Or how about this moment from the video announcing Fiorina’s bid for the Presidency?
“Our founders never intended for us to have a professional political class,” Carly Fiorina says as she turns away from an image of Hilary Clinton. “We know the only way to reimagine our government is to reimagine who is leading it… If you’re tired of the sound bites, the vitriol, the pettiness, the egos, the corruption. If you believe it is time to declare the end of identity politics… the end of lowered expectations… then join us.
I think you get the point. Carly Fiorina has done an excellent job maintaining her focus on the Hillary Clinton and Democrat policies – which have all failed us. While the other candidates bicker between themselves, Fiorina has maintained a laser-like focus on Clinton and offered a wonderful foil for Americans to measure Clinton against.
Now Fiorina is doing it again – “trolling” (as the youth like to say) the Clinton campaign in fantastic fashion.
On Wednesday in Columbia, South Carolina Fiorina chose to hold a press conference outside the Columbia Marriot at noon. This was big news because Hillary Clinton had planned a roundtable press event for just a little while later – but the press would actually be allowed to ask questions of the candidate at the Fiorina event… they would not have that luxury at the Clinton roundtable. The contrast was indeed stark and clear.
Fiorina spokeswoman Sarah Flores announced the event through email, writing;
“Carly Fiorina is speaking in downtown Columbia, SC on Wednesday. And guess what? So is Hillary Clinton. We know it must be hard covering the Hillary for America But Against Transparency campaign. Leading by example, Carly will host a media availability outside the Columbia Marriott at 12:00pm on Wednesday. Our events tomorrow are all open to the press. And by open press, we mean we’ll actually take questions.”
Brilliant. Just Brilliant.
