In Chickasha, Oklahoma a hero appears wearing overalls. His name is Floyd Briggs and he was just doing what he could to make sure the kids in his community were out of danger.
The problem started when one Michael Coppedge used his motorcycle to try to evade local police. Apparently, Coppedge didn’t have a license or insurance and while not a serious crime, Coppedge fled anyway. The chase went upwards of 60 miles per hour through the streets and alleys of Chickasha, Oklahoma until Coppedge and his motorcycle ran into Briggs. Literally.
Mr. Briggs saw the chase and realized that it could become dangerous very quickly and decided that he could do something about it… so he did. He took position in the middle of the road and didn’t give way when Coppedge came along, forcing the motorcycle to swerve, which then forced Coppedge to lay the bike down and flee on foot.
Briggs wasn’t done with him yet though and he pursued the man on foot.
“He got up, run around that fence right there, and I just went after him. I was running out of steam very quick. I’m not very aerodynamic,” Briggs joked.
Briggs was amazed when found out why Coppedge was fleeing from police saying, “That’s not a serious thing right there… you get a ticket, slap on the hand, pay your fine, and go fix your problem.” He also wanted to apologize to all of his neighbors for the language that he used while trying to subdue the fleeing Coppedge. “I did use some language that just isn’t how I talk…Some of the words I used, I was pretty worked up. I’m sorry for that.”
Watch the video of the local news coverage below, I think it’s a safe bet that Mr. Briggs becomes the next viral Internet hero. His personal style, southern drawl and obvious friendliness make internet stardom a no-brainer!
