Miss USA’s 30 Second Message to Terrorists is an EPIC FAIL

Look, I know this is a BEAUTY PAGEANT, but when they decide to pretend it’s something greater than that… we kind of have to comment, don’t we?

The 2014 Miss Universe Competition came down to Miss Colombia and Miss USA, and while this probably wasn’t the reason that Miss USA lost, it’s certainly the one thing that people will remember from the 2014 pageant.

The great Mann Pacquaio delivered a pretty solid question to Miss USA, asking her what she would say if she was given 30 seconds to deliver a message to the Islamic terrorists around the world. Now, nobody expects her to say something like… “If you try and come here you’re going to meet 100 Million Gun Owners!” or “Keep pissing us off and our Military will bomb you back to the Stone Age.” But I really did hope for something better than this…

“I know that as Miss USA I can always spread a message of Hope and Love and Peace. And so I would do my very best to spread that message to them and everyone else in the world.”

Well. Why didn’t we think of that first?

I’m not going to attack her for her decision to send that message. It’s a noble one. I believe that most Americans given the chance would tell the terrorists… if you just stop killing people, we’ll only want the best for you. Sadly, the terrorists don’t seem to care. So, what I’ll say is that her response is more than a little naïve.

I think the Democrat from Hawaii, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, said it best when she was describing why the President and his team (including John Kerry) were so far off base about terrorism.

This is completely missing the point of this radical Islamic ideology that’s fueling these people and mistakenly, a huge mistake, thinking that somehow, ‘Okay, well look, if we give them $10,000 and give them a nice place to live that somehow they’re not going to be engaged in this fighting.’ Osama bin Laden is a perfect example, a millionaire who left and went and lived in the desert because of this radical ideology that was fueling his actions, his attack on the United States and these attacks we’re seeing further now.

We’ve tried positive reinforcement with these people and it hasn’t worked. It’s time to stop blaming ourselves and start getting real about the problems we face.
