Duck Dynasty has become part of the cultural conversation throughout the country, reigniting what seemed to be a failing “reality TV” industry. Every week, millions of people spend time with Louisiana’s Robertson family. They’ve made a living building a successful duck call business for duck hunters, and now they’ve built a rue dynasty thanks in large part to their over-sized personalities.
Well, the new-found fame has some in the Louisiana state Republican Party hoping to make another connection with the Robertson family. The state GOP is not playing coy in its hopes that the star of A&E’s Duck Dynasty, Willie Robertson, would consider running for a soon to be open Congressional seat. Representative Rodney Alexander (R-LA) is retiring this year and joining Governor Bobby Jindal’s (R-LA) administration. It also seems that Alexander is positioning himself to be the GOP standard bearer for the Governor’s job in 2016.
The problem for the GOP is that it leaves his Congressional seat with a need to be filled – which is where the Duck Dynasty star comes in.
However it doesn’t seem like the reality TV star is quite ready to take on any political aspirations saying, “I got a lot going on.”
It’s interesting that the state GOP would go so aggressively after Robertson considering he is a political novice, but it shows that money and fame are two things that go a long way in politics. If Robertson were to run, he could finance his own campaign, which would save the state and national party money that can be used elsewhere. He is beloved on the national scene and would immediately be the voice of many Americans; he would also be a fundraising dynamo (which I’m sure the Party would appreciate).
There are many reasons for the GOP to want Robertson to run… but are there many reasons he should run?
At least for now, he doesn’t seem to think so.
Robertson does make one suggestion for America that I think is well worth hearing. Willie would really like us to consider his guy, Governor Bobby Jindal, as the next President of the United States in 2016. This ain’t a half bad idea. Governor Jindal is smart, has built a great resume, is a “real” conservative and he’s done a great job in Louisiana. I would definitely consider supporting him as the Republican nominee… and I bet Governor Jindal is thankful for Willie’s support too!

While Willie Robertson may not be running for political office in Louisiana anytime soon, he can still be appreciated every week on A&E, along with the rest of the patriotic, God fearing Robertson clan.
