The House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence has issued their final report on the September 11, 2012 attack on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya. For some reason the liberal media has reacted with violent convulsions of ecstasy to the report – because they claim it debunks the Republican narrative that something foul was afoot surrounding Benghazi.
This claim is not entirely accurate. While the report does debunk many concerns that conservatives had about what took place in Benghazi, it also lays bare the fact that the Obama administration (in particular Hillary Clinton’s State Department) should shoulder much of the blame for what happened that night.
Are the left-leaning hosts who are celebrating the fact that a GOP-led House Committee has debunked these and other reports, none of which the folks on MSNBC paid much attention to in the first place, congratulating themselves on their clairvoyance? If you take the Republican-directed HPSCI report as gospel, which many on the left seem inclined to do, it seems they have set straight more than a few dispatches that did not originate with Fox News reporters. The fact that the left never gave these stories much play to begin with — the only impetus for their embargos being their abiding faith in the competency of the administration — is not something most journalists would put on their resume, much less devote blocks of programming to publicizing.
Finally, the conclusion from this report that has been oddly overlooked by the left is the HPSCI’s finding that the State Department failed to provide their personnel in Benghazi with adequate security. Despite repeated warnings about the deteriorating security situation in Benghazi from Amb. Chris Stevens, State failed to provide him with adequate protection. If the left is taking this report at face value and accepting its conclusions in whole, they must also acknowledge that Hillary Clinton’s State Department allowed the first American ambassador killed in the line of duty since 1979 to die as a result of negligence and bureaucratic incompetence.
That’s some victory. These days, however, it seems the left is willing to take whatever it can get.
So liberals have probably gone too far in cheering the conclusion of the House report.
In the same way that liberals are applauding the report, some Republicans are doing the exact opposite and decrying the Committee’s work. Senator Lindsey Graham was on CNN when he was asked about the recently released House report on the Benghazi terror attack. He did not respond positively, to say the least.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday blasted a House GOP-led investigation that recently debunked myths about the 2012 Benghazi attack.
“I think the report is full of crap,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The House Intelligence Committee released a report on Friday evening, which took two years to compile, that found there was no outright intelligence failure during the attack, there was no delay in the rescue of U.S. personnel and there was no political cover-up by Obama administration officials.
After Graham was asked whether the report exonerates the administration, he initially ignored the question, and then eventually said “no.”
“I think the report is full of crap.”
“I don’t believe the report is accurate given the role [former CIA deputy director] Mike Morell played in misleading the Congress on two occasions.”
And to the idea that the report found that no one lied Graham replied, “That’s a bunch of garbage… This report puts all the blame on the State Department and absolves the intelligence community.”
Yep. That about sums it up.
