70-year old Floridian Mike Amoroso is stridently pro-life and has built up a small collection of pro-life t-shirts that he likes to wear. He also happens to be a member at his local Orange City, Florida Planet Fitness – at least he’s a member for now. Recently an employee of his local gym kicked him out because he was wearing a pro-life t-shirt!
“She told me, ‘I am very sorry. We have someone who is not happy with your shirt. Someone is offended by your shirt,'” said Amoroso. “I said, ‘You know I wear them all the time.’ She said, ‘You’ll have to leave,’ and I left.”
Mr. Amoroso was pretty sure that the person’s problem with the shirt wasn’t necessarily that it was pro-life, but the way the pro-life message was delivered. So the very next day he went back to the gym, this time with what he describes as a “softer” anti-abortion shirt. However the gym would not allow him to wear that shirt either, again saying it was “too offensive.”
Local reporter Shannon Butler caught up with Amoroso to speak with him about what had happened.
“Do you understand why people are offended?” she asked.
“Yes. Yes, I do,” said Amoroso.
“This doesn’t deter you even though people are offended from wearing these?” asked Butler.
“No, I might wear them more,” he said.
For Mr. Amoroso, “it’s about freedom of speech. He said he has nothing against women who chose abortion, but one day would like to see an end to abortions. He added that he’s upset the shirts offended someone, but said at least it’s starting a conversation about the topic.”
You have to wonder what is wrong with society/culture when a man wearing a shirt advertising that he’s against killing babies is MORE offensive than actually killing babies.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!
