Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took to Facebook to remind conservatives to make sure they got out and voted on Election Day.
After seeing the slim margins of victory last night… Cruz was proven correct.
Cruz used an article from ABC News to help explain the importance of voting on our every day lives. The article was about the anniversary of the start of the Iranian hostage crisis in 1979. A crisis that would continue for more than a year and be one of the catalysts to launching the era of Ronald Reagan and one of America’s most productive decades.
A story published by the Associated Press presents an instructive case of why our elections matter.
In America today, we are celebrating our freedoms and exercising our cherished right to vote. But in Iran, an oppressive regime is inciting hatred against us as thousands chant “Death to America” as today is the 35th anniversary of when Iranian militants stormed the American embassy in Tehran and held 52 hostages for 444 days. This is the difference between America and Iran. Here we celebrate freedom; there they openly declare their desire to take it away from us.
For 35 years the Islamic Republic of Iran has been our enemy. They have sponsored terrorist attacks that have murdered our citizens. They have threatened both the United States and our ally Israel with annihilation. Every year on “Death to America Day” they declare this goal openly. Yet right now the Obama Administration is desperately trying to compromise with Iran over its nuclear weapons program, which I fear could be a historic mistake.
Please vote today. It matters who we elect.
Our nation needs a new generation of leaders who will champion America at every turn by defending our interests on the world stage and standing up to those who wish us harm.
Remember what happened hours after a strong conservative Republican was sworn into office in January 1980. The American hostages were freed.
Today we have the chance to take back control of the Senate. A strong Republican Congress can apply more pressure to stop the Obama Administration from striking a bad deal with Iran.
And then, when Republicans win the White House in 2016, America will once again send the mullahs in Tehran an unmistakable signal that we will not tolerate their aggression and insults any more.
