As we approach the beginning of the 2016 presidential campaign season, all signs point to Hillary Clinton becoming the defacto nominee of the Democrat Party. This means another round of the tried and true liberal playbook entitled “the GOP War On Women”. The left-leaning media fails to do due diligence in reporting sexist comments and attacks from one of their own, while hyper-inflating anything uttered by a conservative. The following events occurred just this past year, yet was mostly ignored by the “mainstream” media.
Congressman Gary Peters, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, criticized his opponent Republican Terri Lynn Land for referencing her experience as a mom, and calling her a “traitor to her gender”. Terri Lynn Land formerly served as the Secretary of State for Michigan. Still we wait for condemnation.
John Foust, Democrat candidate for the Virginia 10th congressional district commented that his opponent, Republican Barbara Comstock, never had a real job (under-handed code words for stay at home mom). However, the mother of three was the former Director of Public Affairs for the Justice Department under President George W. Bush, as well as a lobbyist and an intern for that champion of women’s rights, Senator Edward M. Kennedy (Chappaquiddick anyone?). Still waiting for condemnation.
Vincent Sheheen, Democrat candidate for Governor in South Carolina committed a Freudian slip during a rally recently where he said of his opponent, Republican Governor Nikki Haley, “we are going to escort whore out the door”. If this truly was a slip of the tongue, then an apology needs to be made to former Senator George Allen. (Macaca?) Waiting for condemnation.
While campaigning for Democrat Senate candidate Bruce Braley, retiring Iowa Senator Tom Harkin said of Republican candidate Joni Ernst’s recent surge in the polls, “I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift” and “She is really attractive and sounds nice”. Lieutenant Colonel Joni Ernst has served 21 years in the U.S. Army Reserve and the Iowa National Guard, served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, and currently commands the largest battalion in the Iowa National Guard. Don’t hold your breath waiting for condemnation.
I am not condoning any past comments made by Republicans that indeed warranted a public outcry of condemnation. However, the silence from the left is deafening. If we are to move forward as a society, where we view any candidate equally regardless of their gender, then this empty and hollow rhetoric that is universally accepted by the left, needs to be erased from public discourse. Just as opposing the policies of President Obama does not make one a racist, opposing the same failed policies that will be carried on by a President Hillary Clinton does not make one a sexist.
