We have some great readers (but you already knew this) who send in some great responses to the day’s events. Recently, we ran the story on how Houston Mayor Annise Parker and her administration were on a witch-hunt to silence the Christian community of Houston, Texas. Specifically, her administration was targeting Christian Pastors that they believed were speaking out about the Mayor and one of her policies in particular. That policy had to do with Houston’s decision to allow men to use ladies restrooms throughout the city.
Thankfully, there has been pushback from the Mayor’s attempts to silence local Pastors. One of our readers, a smart gentleman named Dale, wrote this letter pointing out that there was one very important lady who seems to disagree with Parker’s decision to attack Houston’s churches.
Here’s what Dale wrote…
The Honorable Annise Parker
Mayor, City of Houston
Dear Mayor Parker,
To further admonish you for daring to question the first amendment rights of Church Pastors in Houston, Texas, allow me to share a quotation with you:
” …..to anyone who says that Church is no place to talk about these (political) issues, you tell them there is no place better – no place better because these are not just political issues – they are moral issues, they are issues that have to do with human dignity and human potential, and the future we want for our children and grandchildren “.
– Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States, in address to the 49th Annual General Convention of the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
In summation: even Michelle Obama disagrees with your flagrant violations of the First Amendment.
Sure, Mrs. Obama probably only meant that churches should be speaking out in favor of liberal political issues… but her statement fits here, nonetheless. Way to go, Dale.
