This One Image Shows What’s Wrong with Today’s Media

On Fox Business’s Cavuto the other day, host Neil Cavuto showed a graphic that kind of sums up everything that is wrong with the mainstream media today.

Over the years, we seem to have gone through a kind of metamorphosis in media – first they said that their “personal” biases didn’t effect their reporting. Then some of the media began to admit that sure, most of us are biased, but we try real hard to be fair. Now, they usually just laugh us detractors off and continue pretending that they’re doing a great job. (David Gregory anyone?)

Here is what Cavuto showed that should enlighten us all…

Here’s Rich Noyes from Newsbusters covering what should be a huge media scandal.

It’s no secret that television news has long been addicted to public opinion polls; decades ago, all three broadcast networks decided to partner with an influential newspaper (ABC News with the Washington Post; CBS News with the New York Times; and NBC News with the Wall Street Journal) to sponsor their own regular surveys for use in their political coverage.

That’s why it’s so extraordinary that polling news has practically vanished from the Big Three evening newscasts in 2014 as President Obama’s approval ratings have tumbled and the public opposes defining administration policies like ObamaCare. Just last Thursday, for example, Gallup found Obama’s approval rating at a record low of 38 percent, yet none of the three broadcast networks bothered to mention this on their evening or morning newscasts.

media biasSuch coverage is in stunning contrast to how those same newscasts relentlessly emphasized polls showing bad news for George W. Bush during the same phase of his presidency. Media Research Center analysts reviewed every reference on the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts to public opinion polls from January 1 through August 31, 2014, and from the same time period in 2006. Eight years ago, the networks aired 124 evening news reports which cited public opinion polls about either President Bush’s overall approval rating or his handling of specific policies. In 2014, those same broadcasts produced only nine reports which mentioned public opinion surveys related to President Obama.

It is quite literally “media malpractice.”

But we knew they were biased before this, didn’t we? This is just more ammunition for us to turn back on them when they pretend our complaints are without merit. One of the few fair-minded journalists out there, CNN’s Jake Tapper, has even admitted to noticing this “liberal” bias.

BUNKNOWN: Do you believe there is bias in mainstream media? If yes, which way does it slant and which networks? Thank you. If the answer is yes, why?

TAPPER: Yes I do but I also think it’s more complicated than just liberal bias. I think there are a lot of hard-working reporters in NYC and DC who have never fired a gun, or never worked a 9-5 manual labor job, or lived in the middle of the country, or worried about their next paycheck, or have anyone in their family who serves in the military and I think that creates a cultural bias. But I also think there are a lot of reporters who work to counter that and understand the limitations of their own realities. But yes, I do think there is bias. Reluctant to name names though because I try to be collegial.

Which is why many new-media conservatives like myself would argue that conservatives need to abandon the main stream media altogether and join us in the new media revolution. We can’t lie to you because it’s just too easy to fact-check us… so we work hard to provide you with useful information that has been sourced and proven true. Yes, we’re biased… but we tell you that much up front. We don’t try to pretend like we don’t have an angle. We do.

Get smart, dump the old media.
