Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) gave an interview to conservative online magazine World Net Daily. He had some tough words for the President, especially as it pertained to his ability to defend us from the radical Islamists who threaten us.
“In defending America against radical Islamic terrorism, Barack Obama cannot be trusted,” DeLay said.
“Barack Obama was raised a Muslim, and he claims he is a Christian, and I can’t say for sure whether he’s a Christian or not, but he has shown over the last few years that he has great sympathies with Islam,” DeLay explained.
“You combine that with Obama’s political orientation that is far to the left,” he continued, “and you get a president who hates war, hates the military, and you have a formula for military inaction when it comes to combating radical Islamic terrorists like we are seeing in ISIS.”
“You add to mix that Barack Obama is incompetent, way over his head as president, and the whole combination produces a worldview that makes Obama detached and reluctant to take the type of the military action against ISIS that would be effective,” he said
DeLay concluded Obama “does not want to face the reality of the danger and threat represented to the United States by ISIS, and he does not want to admit the connections between al-Qaida and ISIS, because he refuses to understand that we are in a war against radical Islamic terrorism.”
President Obama (like President Bush before him) has gone out of his way to be deferential to world Islam, even while speaking out against “radical” Islam. Have we been too politically correct in our efforts against terrorism? DeLay definitely seems to think so, going so far as to say that President Obama “has great sympathies with Islam.” Perhaps the real issue is that we think about Islam from a “Western” mindset. We think of Islam the way we do Christianity or Judaism, as inclusive and peaceful, but in the Islamic world they are stuck in a Medieval mindset – tolerance are coexistence are not in their vocabulary.
He also paints the President as “incompetent,” “detached” and willfully ignorant. Not the recipe we should be looking for in a Commander-in-Chief.
DeLay went on to talk about the immigration crisis, Joe Biden, and how all of the current crises play together… and the picture he paints is terrifying.
The entire interview is well worth the read as a thought-provoking and enlightening piece about what is happening in our world today. DeLay may be a disgraced former politician, but the man knows Washington and politics better than most, and his insight on today’s issues is keen.
My question is this–if DeLay is right… how much trouble are we in?
