Is this a preview of what is to come? One of our closest allies in the world has mandated that students across their country will now be forced to study at least one unit of Islamic History. Great Britain was acting to soothe the concerns of their Muslim citizens who felt that while Britain does a good job teaching an understanding of Christianity, they did not communicate about other faiths well.
While I might quibble about any Western nation teaching Christianity “well,” it is emblematic of what is happening in our world today. The majority of people believe that the things being taught by the government as Christian ethics or beliefs have nothing to do with what the Bible communicates to us. The desire of leading Muslims in Britain is to help Christians better understand what the Muslim faith is about.
Some non-Muslims in Britain see the new course requirement as a good thing too. “As is well known, the early Islamic civilizations gave much to the world,” a spokesman for the Blackburn Diocese Board of Education said, “and we would certainly support the teaching of such an important part of world history.”
One has to wonder, with the sycophantic way that the public education system in America operates, how soon it will be until we too our forced to have an Islamic history course in our High Schools? Even though, as many Americans with knowledge of our social studies curriculums know, our students already receive a wealth of teaching about Islam in our Geography and World History courses. We study the Islamic world’s culture and physical geography in our Geography courses. We also study ancient Islam through the present in our World History courses.
However, I would imagine that the Brits similarly taught these things in their secondary schools and it didn’t stop the course change by their government.
With the ever-increasing loss of freedom in our education system, from No Child Left Behind (NCLB) to the Common Core, my guess is that very soon the federal government will begin mandating that certain courses be taught in every classroom across the country. That is where this road of ever increasing sameness in education is leading, The Islamic History course is simply a system of a corrupt and overreaching central government. And it’s coming to America soon.
