Corruption and Government Overreach In Nevada Oppression

This latest intrusion on several aspects of a particular citizen’s freedom has again illustrated what is wrong with Washington. The problem is power given to stooges who only live for the pleasure they derive from the unbridled exercise of their power and the day they can start collecting their gargantuan pensions. They are petty tyrants. As a kid I would see the pictures of the Nazi camps and after getting past the horror, I would always wonder how the Nazis got their own stooges to do their evil bidding. Judges, doctors, social workers, prison guards and even housewives who had to ignore the smell coming from the oven smokestacks. Why would seemingly normal and “nice” people do such things? This was the same society and culture that produced Beethoven a few years earlier. What happened!?! (Actually, it also produced Freddy Nietzsche around the same time and that shows something was very wrong.)

But now I understand. After watching the Range War in Bunkerville and seeing those cops standing around draped with assault rifles and snipers ranging in on cowboys and ranchers, I sort of understand. They are not concerned with their fellow Americans. They are not concerned with the fact that an order to do something that is morally repugnant is not an order that must be obeyed. They were concerned with getting a good report on their next annual review…like the guys who prided themselves on keeping the trains to Auschwitz on schedule. It was sad and disgusting at the same moment.

reidcorruptBunkerville, unbeknownst to me, was close to home. Just down the road. I had read about the confrontation, but hadn’t focused on it, because it had all the trappings of just another overreach by the Feds. Another incident of corrupt power that no one will have to answer for. And if called on the carpet, there is always the Fifth Amendment, right? That’s why the founders created the 5th, right? I just learned one of my clients took last week off work to be present and watch the feds do their stuff. I’m proud of him.

And then there is the strange scenario with Harry Reid. With typical sour grapes Harry quipped from behind big thick sun glasses that the Bunkerville standoff “Isn’t over.” What the heck does that mean? Have you heard any other Senator comment on the Range War? I haven’t. Not one. It’s just another small blip on the radar of the Feds in which, this time, they lost. Why would anyone care? Particularly a Senator? What gives? It’s almost as if Harry has a personal interest in the Bunkerville scenario. Or maybe his kid does? Which is corruption on such a patent and obvious scale it is unbelievable. And Harry isn’t the least embarrassed or ashamed. Harry doesn’t seem to care who sees what he is up to. It’s astonishing.

The ancient Greeks had a saying, to wit; “The mills of the gods grind slowly, but they grind exceedingly fine.” Harry had better not stand too close to the millstones. His coattail may get caught up in the machinery and himself with it.

Ps: I just realized I may not have spelled the president’s favorite vegetable correctly. But, who cares. It’s an ill tasting veggie. The President has outstripped Carter. So I can say with Pontius Pilate, “What I have written (miss-spelled), I have written” What harm will come? I can also enjoy complete impunity for my actions. It’s a small taste of power. Just like the Feds. Very intoxicating! YAHOOO!

I am an attorney in Las Vegas who has always wanted to draw political cartoons, partly because I like drawing, but mostly because I enjoy ridiculing pompous know-nothings. Verbally debating them gets nowhere. They don't know they're beaten. But poking fun at them in a drawing leaves them without recourse or rebuttal. What can they do...? Call me names, whine, cuss me ... or maybe draw a witty riposte? Unlikely.
