Veteran Takes on Three Intruders with Firearm, “I Opened the Door and Smoked ’Em”

A veteran was attacked by three intruders and even shot, but he was not going down so easily. He shot back at the thugs, without the intent to kill.

Alabama Marine veteran Michael Irving was attacked by Chasatie Dulabhan, Casey Ray Gann, and Joseph Heathcock. They brandished a shotgun and a handgun, but it still wasn’t enough for them to complete an “easy” robbery. The 62-year-old vet had something else in store for them.

Irving said, “I walked right here to open the door, and that’s when he shot me right there,” he continued, “They cut loose on me, and that’s when I went to the cabinet here and back behind the coffee was an old time pistol. I opened the door and smoked ’em.”

So at this point, he has already been shot and wounded by the perps. However, he thought to himself that there’s no need to panic, and still manages to not only hit all three them with a bullet, but he also managed to do so without a single one of them being lethal shots.

He added, “I tried not to shoot any of them in the chest. I didn’t want to have to kill ’em.”

So they came in to rob and likely kill the elderly man, but he was still focused on not killing them, just stopping them. That’s much more self control than many people would have had in a similar situation.

Fox 10 News reports:

As for Irving, he’s being hailed as a local hero for defending himself. He was outnumbered, outgunned, and has been battling colon cancer for the past two years. He says you never mess with a former marine.

“I learned that in the Marine Corps – ‘react and do’ before you get scared,” said Irving.

He was robbed a few weeks ago, targeted for his cancer medication. Deputies believe that robbery was committed by at least one of the same three suspects.

After that incident, Irving installed new Plexiglass on his door — something he believes helped save his life.

“Where the bullet hole is, you can see how thick that glass is and that’s what saved me, because it slowed down the buckshot enough.”

Irving says someone up above must have been watching over him.

“If I hadn’t of moved just a little bit, it would have hit me in the chest and sternum and caught me in the heart.”

All three of the punk robbers are in Metro Jail, were they belong!
