SNL Sketch Says Sarah Palin Worse than Vietnamese POW Camp

After praising SNL yesterday for attacking those in power, I have to take a moment to mention when they cross a disturbing line.

Saturday Night Live went for the cheap laughs in a recent “Weekend Update” segment going after favorite foil of the left, Sarah Palin. In a piece noting Senator John McCain’s censure by the Arizona GOP, SNL intimated that Palin was more difficult for the Senator to deal with than his time in a Vietcong POW camp. While the censure is technically in the news, certainly SNL went picking some low hanging fruit here. While the live audience in New York may have enjoyed the joke, my guess is it fell flat in middle America.

C’mon SNL – how about some joke about the people who are actually running the government? Perhaps a joke about the IRS, NSA or Justice Department scandals? Is that too much to ask?
