About a month ago I was one of the millions who had become enthralled with Senator Rand Paul and his filibuster. I was in awe of a man standing so boldly against the absolute power of the Executive that President Obama and his Attorney General Eric Holder were intimating he had.
The situation seemed simple enough. “When I asked the president, can you kill an American on American soil, it should have been an easy answer…. It should have been a resounding and unequivocal ‘no’… The president’s response? He hasn’t killed anyone yet…Is that enough? Are we satisfied by that?”
Senator Paul said that he would end his filibuster, “if the president or the attorney general will clarify that they are not going to kill non-combatants in America.”
His reasons for taking up the filibuster were heroic in and of themselves as he stood to fight for the rights of every single American – whether they were for him or against him.
“I will speak as long as it takes until the alarm is sounded from coast to coast that our Constitution is important, that your rights to trial by jury are precious, that no American should be killed by a drone, on American soil, without first being charged with a crime, without first being found guilty by a court.”
Senator Paul’s filibuster in the face of President Obama’s reluctance to limit his own Executive power was truly a special moment.
Now let’s compare it to Texas State Democratic Senator Wendy Davis’s filibuster to stop a bill that would make women’s health procedures safer and also vastly reduce the number of abortions in Texas. Davis took an issue that is extremely popular with the Left (the murder of children) and spoke about it as if the passage of the bill would destroy 100 years of women’s rights advances.
She is no heroine; in fact Davis is a harbinger of death. She defended the mass slaughter of millions of children simply for the comfort or luxury of mothers who are too selfish to live with the consequences of their actions.
The left and the media are lionizing this woman for defending a woman’s ability to murder her own child. Feminists have long cheered the sexual revolution and the growing equality of women when it comes to sexual freedom in America.
Our parents teach us as we grow that with freedom of action comes responsibility– it is a basic biological truth that when a male and a female have sex, the creation of a child is a very real possibility. If we are responsible enough to have sex with whomever we want whenever we want, then we should also be responsible enough to live with the repercussions of our actions.
Killing a child because we are worried about being discomfited is not just selfish, it’s monstrous.
We Americans have the blood of over 40 million children on our hands; we have presided over the holocaust of a generation and women like Wendy Davis try to cover up what is truly happening by calling themselves women’s rights advocates. They are disgusting.
State Senator Davis is an immoral fiend and Senator Paul is a hero. There is no comparing these two filibusters.
