Police Offer $40 Walmart Gift Cards in Exchange for People’s Guns

Orange County Sheriff’s Office held their third-annual “gun buyback.” It resulted in a record 262 firearms and 47 pellet guns. Only three of which had been reported stolen.

So what exactly is a gun buyback? It’s an…interesting process to say the least.

The Orange County Sheriff’s office is offering $40 Wal-Mart gift cards in exchange for people anonymously turn in their guns. The goal is to reduce the number of firearms owned by civilians. It also offers a way for people to sell their privately owned guns, without risking prosecution,  to the government.

Orlando Sentinel reports:

“As a community, we have a responsibility to be responsible,” Bishop Kelvin Cobaris said at a Tuesday press conference.
