Flashback, 2006: Senate Dems Vote Unanimously to Confirm Neil Gorsuch [VIDEO]

Written by Philip Hodges

Part of the political game is to stall confirmations. It happens on both sides.

But perhaps what we’re witnessing with President Trump’s nominees is worse than it’s been in a long time.

The Democrats have to make it sound like the nominees aren’t qualified in some way, and that that’s the reason they’re holding up the confirmations. But I think most people get that this is all a part of the game. This is part of their “resistance” strategy.

They’ll block confirmations not because they have true concerns about particular cabinet picks, but simply because Trump is the one who appointed them.

President Trump has nominated Neil Gorsuch to replace the late Antonin Scalia. Chris Matthews predicted that no Democrat would vote for him, and that it would most certainly go to filibuster. He might be right.

Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) said he’d vote against anyone whom Trump puts up, simply because he views the situation as the Republicans “stealing” the Supreme Court seat from Obama. “This is a stolen seat being filled by an illegitimate and extreme nominee, and I will do everything in my power to stand up against this assault on the Court,” Merkley stated.

Vice President Mike Pence tweeted an old video from 2006 which showed the same Neil Gorsuch getting confirmed unanimously by Democrats and Republicans for the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
