FORMER Petty Officer 2nd Class Jane Ervin decided not to stand for the national anthem on September 19. She refused to do so while on reserve duty, stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, located in Hawaii.
Her reasoning for justifying the disrespectful act was, “I just didn’t want to stand at that moment,” Ervin continued, “I can’t stand for this song knowing that the song isn’t for me, being black. The song doesn’t represent me at all. To be honest, I never really thought about the flag my entire life, I had no reason to. It’s just a flag.”
So she is an officer, serving the great country of America, and never thought about the flag? I find that disgustingly hard to believe.
