What We’re Reading January 2, 2014

We hope you’re having a great day wherever you are and that the news we dig up for you this morning helps you navigate the day more efficiently!

It’s a busy world out there, and you don’t have a ton of free time to be doing Internet searches for the most important items of the day… lucky for you, we do. We drink gallons of coffee in an effort to stay awake long enough to scour the far reaches of the world wide web in an effort to bring you the most important, useful and useless information every single day.

So without further ado, here’s what we’re reading Thursday January 2, 2014.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor has issued an injunction stopping the Obama administration from enforcing the birth control requirement on a group of Catholic nuns, the Little Sisters of the Poor, and a few other related groups.

Obamacare could be disastrous for an economy hoping to recover, and the costs could prove to be a HUGE burden for middle class families.

An Iraq War veteran becomes the first person to legally purchase marijuana in Colorado. Meanwhile in Oregon officials are cracking down on tobacco use, while easing up on marijuana use.

The Socialist President of France finally admits that the nation’s taxes are too high, which angers just about everyone – friend and foe…

Mexico’s northern states are threatening to secede over new taxes that they believe will be far too burdensome on their local economies.

2014 in the United States has begun with record-low temperatures and a lot of snow!

In the Pope’s New Year address he begged humanity to stop the violence.

The pontiff, who took his papal name from St Francis of Assisi, the saint most associated with peace, urged the world to listen to the “cry for peace” from suffering peoples.

“What on earth is happening in the hearts of men? What on earth is happening in the heart of humanity? … It’s time to stop! … Everyone must be committed to building a society that is truly just and caring.”

Will Bill De Blasio be the first Dictator of New York City? All signs point to yes.

This year’s New Year’s Eve shows were not for family consumption. It’s hard to believe that even a liberal could say some of the things that were heard on these shows…
