Hillary Blasts “Birther” Trump, Ignores Her Own Part in Birther Movement

Written by Philip Hodges

At a campaign stop in Reno, Nevada, Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton accused her opponent of “leading the charge” of the birther movement:

And let’s not forget Trump first gained political prominence leading the charge for the so-called “Birthers.”

He promoted the racist lie that President Obama isn’t really an American citizen – part of a sustained effort to delegitimize America’s first black President.

Here’s a bit of trivia. Can you identify which campaign’s supporters sent out this email back in 2008?

“Barack Obama’s mother was living in Kenya with his Arab-African father late in her pregnancy. She was not allowed to travel by plane then, so Barack Obama was born there and his mother then took him to Hawaii to register his birth… Obama carries multiple citizenships and is ineligible to run for President of the United States. United States Constitution, Article II, Section 1.”

Probably McCain’s, right? Or, maybe Sarah Palin wrote it. I mean, obviously it was a “tea-bagger” conspiracy theorist.

Actually, it wasn’t anyone on the right. They were Hillary Clinton’s supporters.

If you recall, it was Philip Berg – a former Pennsylvania deputy attorney general and a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter – who filed a lawsuit claiming that Obama was ineligible to run for president, based on his dubious origins. Clinton’s supporters were the biggest group of “birthers” there were.

But somehow, all the negative press fell on conservatives. And Donald Trump. Think it’ll be an issue for Hillary Clinton this time around? Of course not. She’s on the right team, so she’ll be mostly protected by the press.

Last year, Hillary Clinton was asked by CNN’s Don Lemon about people’s claims that she and her campaign were the ones who started the birther movement. She responded, saying that those claims were completely “ludicrous.” Clinton said she had never even heard of that claim and lamented that she gets “blamed for nearly everything.”

So if Trump’s “birtherism” is “racist,” does that mean that Hillary is going to disavow all the “racist” birther accusations her supporters made in 2008, and Mr. Berg’s “racist” lawsuit?
