I use the term ‘shocking’ rather loosely. Nothing should shock us anymore when it comes to the Clintons. And we all know what effect this news is going to have on her supporters: nothing.
I’m convinced that if there were evidence that the Clintons were involved in something vile like child sex trafficking, Hillary’s supporters would find a way to defend it, perhaps even saying that it was “for the children.”
Newly released emails and internal phone calls – obtained by Judicial Watch and Citizens United – show a blatant pay-to-play scheme going on during Clinton’s stint as Secretary of State. The Clinton Foundation acted as a sort of broker for anyone else who wanted favors from or access to the State Department. When certain foreign dignitaries or others wanted to “play” at the State Department, they couldn’t have access until they “paid” the Clinton Foundation.
One email exchange took place between top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin and Clinton Foundation official Doug Band – who also served as a top aide to President Bill Clinton. ABC News reported:
The most pointed example made public Monday involved a request by Crown Prince Salman of Bahrain, after first trying normal channels, to meet with the Secretary of State. The emails suggest the meeting was only confirmed after intervention by the Clinton Foundation, to which his government had given between $50,000 and $100,000.
On June 23, 2009, Band wrote top Clinton aide Huma Abedin to alert her that the prince will be in town and is “asking to see her [Clinton].”
“Good friend of ours,” Band wrote.
Abedin responds that the prince “asked to see hrc [Hillary Rodham Clinton] thurs and fri thru normal channels. I asked and she said she doesn’t want to commit to anything…”
But 48 hours later, Abedin wrote back to Band to say the meeting was on the calendar. “If u see him, let him know,” she writes.
Crown Prince Salman wanted to meet with Hillary, since he was going to be in town. But initially, Hillary didn’t “want to commit to anything.” Not until the Bahraini official donated thousands to the Clinton Foundation. Then, the meeting appeared on the calendar.
Another example involved intercepted internal phone calls. They showed many phone calls between one of Hillary’s top aides Cheryl Mills, and Doug Band – the Clinton Foundation official.
In one example, a Chicago commodities trader by the name of Rajiv Fernando won a seat on the International Security Advisory Board table – a “sensitive State Department security panel” that advised the Secretary on issues pertaining to “arms control and nuclear security.” Fernando had no experience. Other longtime members on the panel were perplexed as to how he even got appointed. “It’s natural to ask how he got onto the board when compared to the rest of the esteemed list of members,” one panel member wrote in an internal department email.
Want to know how this commodities trader landed on such a board at the State Department? Coincidentally, just prior to his appointment, he had donated between $100,000 and $250,000 to the Clinton Foundation.
Not long after ABC News first disclosed this curious appointment back in 2011 – before they knew the details – Fernando resigned. The State Department issued a statement claiming that Fernando “had joined the advisory board to offer a new perspective on security issues.” Uh-huh.
Well, now we know what was really going on. I’m sure Hillary and the members of the security board weren’t drawing on his years of experience as a commodities trader to help advise them on nuclear security. He just wanted a seat at the table, and he knew how to get there. You’ve got to pay to play.
ABC News actually tried to interview Rajiv Fernando at the Democratic National Convention last month. Naturally, Fernando was a superdelegate for Hillary Clinton. And of course, he didn’t want to answer any questions about his brief time on the nuclear security board. “I’m just trying to help Secretary Clinton get elected,” he told ABC News.
For all of these examples, the Clinton campaign is claiming that these “right-wing” groups are just out to get the Clintons, and they’re distorting facts to paint them in the most negative light possible. As Hillary Clinton spokesman Josh Schwerin said, “No matter how this group tries to mischaracterize these documents, the fact remains that Hillary Clinton never took action as Secretary of State because of donations to the Clinton Foundation.”
