President Obama recently did an interview with MSNBC and Chris Matthews where he basically brushed off any concerns about the IRS scandal. Never mind that hundreds, maybe even thousands, of American citizens were persecuted by the government under President Obama’s watch – he’s mad that “some progressives” didn’t stand with him 100% when the scandal broke. In fact, in his interview with Matthews he seems to throw the “Hardball” host under the bus at one point.
“By the way, Chris, I’ll point out there’s some so-called progressives [Pauses and Looks Attentively at Matthews] and, you know, perceived to be liberal commentators, who during that week were just were outraged at the possibility that these folks, you know, had been, at the direction of the Democratic party, in some way discriminated against Tea Party folks. You know, that is what gets news. That’s what gets attention.”
To be fair, back in May Chris did say, “And by the way, he does run the IRS. He runs the Treasury Department. He runs the United States government, and he is accountable for it, and this is nonsensical that he’s more outraged about Benghazi than the IRS.”
He also didn’t pull any punches when he described just how bad the IRS scandal could be.
But the President seems to forget about another prominent progressive who was very upset about the entire IRS debacle just a few short months ago. Obama himself.
“Americans have a right to be angry about it, and I’m angry about it,” Obama said.
“It should not matter what political stripe you’re from. The fact of the matter is, the IRS has to operate with absolute integrity,” the president said.
Obama pledged to work “hand in hand” with Congress as it investigates the matter, and vowed new safeguards will be put in place at the IRS so that “this doesn’t happen again.”
Apparently, the President has forgotten his own outrage over the IRS targeting of American citizens simply because of their political beliefs. He now sees more benefit in sweeping the IRS scandal under the rug, as opposed to standing up for the people he is supposed to be representing. The Democrats may continue to pretend that there is no scandal here, but we should all know better. Several prominent IRS officials have pleaded the 5th at testimony, several have lost their jobs, and the investigation has proven that this wasn’t about a couple of employees in the Cincinnati field office.
This scandal is much larger than that, and the President is terrified that we’re going to figure it out.
