Budweiser has finally staked out a definitive position in the gay marriage debate, and they’re not on the side of conservatives. In the most recently released election year/summertime TV advertisement, Budweiser announced their full-throated support of gay marriage.
The spot was released in conjunction with Ellen Degeneres, and it features the wedding of two men, “Steve and Greg.”
The lead actors in the commercial, Seth Rogen and Amy Schumer, then do their best to normalize what is taking place on the screen by explaining to Americans that a gay wedding is “just like any wedding.” It includes cringeworthy speeches, a girl who is super ready to settle down, and cake.
Then the two actor/comedians deliver the final blow –
Rogen: “Bud Light proudly supports everyone’s right to marry whoever they want.”
Schumer: “To the groom!”
Rogen: “And the groom!”
Budweiser is a private business and free to hold whatever position on the gay marriage debate that they choose. However, we supporters of traditional marriage are equally free to choose whether or not to continue purchasing their products. I believe that the fallout from Bud’s complete embrace of homosexuality, and particularly gay marriage, will likely lead to the loss of a great deal of business and that their business will continue to falter.
The question is – will they lose your business?
