I guess now we know where Michelle Obama gets her terrible commencement behavior from.
This past weekend President Obama had the wonderful opportunity to deliver the commencement speech at one of New Jersey’s most important colleges – Rutgers University. While most other commencement speakers might deliver encouraging words of future glory, or some message of hope, strength, character, charity, grace or some other important, useful trait… President Obama instead used his time to demean Donald Trump and to belittle Republicans.
Par for the course.
The one thing we’ve come to learn about our President – if he has the opportunity to act in a classless and vindictive manner, he’ll do it. It’s his thing.
At Rutgers, he didn’t disappoint. No, he delivered “classy” presidential lines like these, recounted by Fox News:
Obama used his commencement speech at Rutgers University to illustrate a world view antithetical to the ideas espoused by the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. Looking out at a sea of red and black gowns, Obama told the roughly 12,000 graduating students that the pace of change on the planet is accelerating, not subsiding, and that recent history had proved that the toughest challenges cannot be solved in isolation.
“A wall won’t stop that,” Obama said, bringing to mind Trump’s call for building a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. “The point is, to help ourselves, we’ve got to help others — not pull up the drawbridge and try to keep the world out.”
Or this one, which seemed directed at both Trump and the GOP:
“In politics and in life, ignorance is not a virtue,” Obama said. “It’s not cool to not know what you’re talking about. That’s not keeping it real or telling it like it is. That’s not challenging political correctness. That’s just not knowing what you’re talking about,” the president said.
“And yet, we’ve become confused about this,” he continued, warning that the rejection of facts and science would lead the U.S. on a path of decline.
“Facts, evidence, reason, logic, an understanding of science: These are good things. These are qualities you want in people making policy. … That might seem obvious. … We traditionally have valued those things, but if you’re listening to today’s political debate, you might wonder where this strain of anti-intellectualism came from.”
It’s interesting because on a whole host of issues the Democrat Party has become the “Anti-Science” Party. For example, the data — the facts — show that their global warming/climate change fears are completely unfounded and yet they persist with their religious convictions that our planet is doomed. On Abortion the science is settled and we KNOW that a pre-born child is most assuredly a living, and wholly separate person from its mother, and yet the Democrats continue to persist in their ignorance. On homosexuality, the data has always pointed to these lifestyles being dangerous, and on transgenderism the science dictates that these people need medical and psychiatric help. However, on both fronts, liberals seem to shut their eyes and their ears as they rush headlong over a cliff of anti-science political correctness.
Yet our shameless president has the audacity to call us “ignorant.” It’s infuriating. In fact, even the moments in this speech when the president isn’t attacking the GOP, he’s assaulting our intelligence and the historical record. He even spends a few minutes defending his presidency in a wild (and sad) attempt to salvage the Obama era from the dustbin of terrible presidencies.
If you’d like to see the entire ridiculous and disgusting display of preening self-aggrandizement… watch the speech below.
