The Reverend Bill Owens is the founder and President of the Coalition of African American Pastors (CAAP) and has been a long-time leader in the black community. For years, he has fought hard against the genocide of abortion, noting that it has caused catastrophic damage within our nation’s black community. More recently, he and his organization have been outspoken critics of the left’s attempts to turn back the gay lobby’s fascist attacks on our religious liberty. Reverend Owens has denounced the attempt to pain gay marriage as a new front in the civil rights movement, telling Breitbart News, “I marched with many people back in those days and I have reached out to some of my friends who marched with me, and all of them are shocked. They never thought they would see this day that gay rights would be equated with civil rights. Not one agreed with this comparison.”
For his activism and his support of conservative candidates and causes, Owens has been viciously attacked and cruelly savaged by the Left. Thankfully, Owens has a thick skin, and he proved that again this past week when he announced that he was officially endorsing Senator Ted Cruz (R-SC) for President.
“No one has a stronger record on the defense of marriage, and no one has a better grasp of the challenges facing our families and the solutions we need than Senator Ted Cruz,” Reverend Owens said. “As President, Ted will create a healthy culture for families, defend innocent life, and promote widely shared economic growth.”
“For too long,” he continued, “Democrats have taken the African American vote for granted, fostered racial division, poured salt on racial wounds, and promoted policies directly harmful to the entire black community and destructive to the African American family and its pathway to prosperity. Ted will reverse those destructive policies and create an environment where the black community can truly prosper through the enormous talents and skills of its people; instead of languishing behind on the handouts and false promises of liberalism.”
“I am honored to have the support of Reverend Owens,” said Cruz. “His eloquent and uncompromising defense of the family and of religion in public life is inspiring and will continue to be effective. We are excited to have him serve as a spokesperson to pastors and in the African-American community.”
This adds another important endorsement to Senator Cruz’s campaign. Senator Cruz has racked up the major “non-political” endorsements, while his opponent, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), has been busy building his endorsement list from his colleagues in Washington. One wonders which endorsements are more important – Rubio’s Congressional support or Cruz’s philosophical support?
