In an analysis for Fox News, conservative pundit Charles Krauthammer hit the nail on the head when talking about the importance of stopping President Obama from appointing the Supreme Court justice that will replaces Justice Antonin Scalia. Krauthammer points out a couple of important things. First, if the roles were reversed, the Democrats would be throwing a fit about any Republican attempt to appoint a Justice in an election year. Second, this appointment to the Supreme Court is more important than any political fallout for the GOP. These two truths demand that the GOP do everything in their power to make sure that the next President is the one who names Justice Scalia’s replacement.
The argument from Elizabeth Warren and the others on both sides are completely hypocritical, almost embarrassingly so…
Chuck Schumer said that he would recommend — there’s 18 months to go in the Bush Administration, 18 months to go, and said he would recommend to his colleagues not to confirm any nominee from this president.
The future of the Court is at stake. The future of the Scalia legacy is at stake. Whatever the effects on the election, however much the Democrats play the obstructionism card, it pales in comparison with what would happen if Scalia were replaced by say another Elena Kagan…
This is a tactical decision. This is the moment of his life for Mitch McConnell. He’s the ultimate Senate tactician. He knows the rules. He knows how to get around things. This is purely a political decision, how best to turn this guy down, or girl down, whoever it is, and it could go one way or the other. That’s nothing but tactics. In the end, the Republicans have to be absolutely united on the fact that they will not accept an Obama nominee one way or the other.
Come what may, Barack Obama must not be allowed to appoint another Supreme Court Justice.
