With the passing away of Justice Scalia the Supreme Court and the American people have lost a precious conservative Constitutional voice of reason. In court largely dominated by liberals, Justice Antonin Scalia was a conservative voice of reason in the proverbial lion’s den. Justice Scalia was known to tirelessly work to stop judicial activism, defended private property rights, and religious liberties among other things valued by the American people.
Unfortunately this may give President Obama an opportunity to nominate another liberal to the bench – which would be a certifiable disaster. The next appointee to the Supreme Court is crucial; only two Justices remain that are non-liberal – Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
We can only pray that Obama does not get the chance to nominate anyone to the Supreme Court or that his choice will not be confirmed by the Senate. It is more than likely Obama will nominate a person of his choosing, but it remains to be seen what will happen in the Senate. Will some Republicans in the Senate defect and support the choice of President Obama if his choice is someone more moderate? Or will Senate Republicans soundly defeat the nomination of Obama’s candidate to fill the now vacant Supreme Court seat?
According to Yahoo Politics Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is threatening a filibuster of an Obama nominee. When Cruz was asked if he would do so his answer was, “Absolutely”. Saturday’s Republican debate saw commentary by the candidates on the possible nomination by Obama of candidate for the Supreme Court. Donald Trump, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Dr. Ben Carson were all noted to have said the next president should name the nominee to the court. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) also concurs that the future appointment to the court should be done by the next president.
I find it laughable that Hillary Clinton is up in arms about this situation. The presidential contender who rightly belongs in a jail-cell due to her illegal acts is concerned over the Supreme Court, how ironic. Clinton had this to say about Republicans attempting to block an Obama nomination: this action would “dishonor our Constitution”. Huh, really Hillary? What do you suppose your own actions have to say about the Constitution Mrs. Hillary I’m above the law Clinton?
Obama has said, “I plan to fulfill my constitutional responsibilities to nominate a successor in due time”. Funny how President Obama speaks of constitutional responsibilities when it is well known that many of his actions of late violate the very Constitution that he speaks of.
Of course the Democrats and the Republicans both desire their choice to fill the now vacant seat on the Supreme Court as is only natural and normal. The difference is the Republicans are not apt to nominate a left leaning liberal hell bent on legislating from the bench to change the very fabric of our nation.
Pray that the Republicans block an Obama nominee – another leftist liberal on the court especially given the recent decisions of said court, would be a disaster of biblical proportions.
