As the American family gathers around, pondering the fate of one of our own, not really someone we knew all that well, still a mere baby, you have to show some compassion for the youngest among us — must not we have some compassion? Having only lived but a few weeks, the question is; do we go to extraordinary steps to save her or do we just let her lie there, weak and growing more fatigued by the hour, to die? Do we give our best advice on what fate she might face? Or should we allow a death panel to convene and make the decision for us? Do we hold a prayer vigil? Do we seek the wisdom and comfort of Providence?
There are always a lot of hard questions when dealing with life and death, but the answers are even tougher.
Not since the Titanic went down in the icy seas of the North Atlantic has something so big on its maiden voyage gone down so fast. On October 1, open enrollment began, and by mid-November the totals were staggeringly bad for the Affordable Care Act (i.e. ObamaCare). Only a meager 100,000 had enrolled, yet a staggering 5 million individuals had lost their previous medical coverage.
With the free fall in lost coverage came a tail spin in the President’s approval rating, down to 39%. Which is still about double what I ever thought it should be — but then again I’m neither a welfare recipient or a public sector worker, who produces nothing directly related to the compensation I’m paid. I’ve got different priorities than trying to rationalize why another American owes me a living through the sweat and taxes he/she pours out.
The truth, along with the evidences being put out by a reluctant press corp, has some people saying that ObamaCare is on life support or in a death spiral. Let us hope so. Let us pray that is does in fact pass away. Let us hope that if it isn’t dead by the time it hits rock bottom — the impact and deceleration is enough to put it and the rest of us out of this miserable situation.
But even more so, let’s hope this leads to some inquiries into all the other lies and breaches of trust this administration has been a part of, and that it leads to some serious hearings and a much needed impeachment. Heaven knows Obama and all those who serve around him deserve nothing less.
On June 15, 2009, in front of the American Medical Association President Obama told this lie:
“That means that no matter how we reform health care, we will keep this promise to the American people: If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period. If you like your health-care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health-care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.”
Then on April Fools Day (the fools being those who voted for him), April 1, 2010 in front of an audience in Portland, Oregon, President Obama told another whopper;
“And if you like your insurance plan, you will keep it. No one will be able to take that away from you. It hasn’t happened yet. It won’t happen in the future.”
Many of us knew Obama was a pathological liar, but our rantings just didn’t reach the voters’ ears. We knew he was more deserving of the Pinocchio award than the Nobel Peace prize, but there was nothing we could do about it on a national scale with the entire media complex on his side. Matter of fact, I feel bad for ol’ Pinocchio, he really was a good boy.
President Obama is a grown man — albeit a eunuch — not only should he know better, he purposely misleads the American people, daily, in a fashion more closely comparable to another famous traitor, Benedict Arnold.
Add insult to injury, we have Nancy Pelosi blowing smoke up our back side, telling us before the vote on the Affordable Care Act that “we need to pass it in order to see what is in it.” Hey, Nancy, isn’t that what the doctor explains regarding a stool sample? ObamaCare has the same stench and the same substance. It needs to be flushed!
Even more disturbing than the Supreme Court of the United States ruling ObamaCare Constitutional as a tax, is the fact that Obama — once the bill was passed — seemed to make changes to it on a whim. Something only powerful politicians can do without going to jail — Obama is handing out exemptions to corporations, unions, even giving a one year extension to businesses in general — without ever going before Congress for legislative changes.
Now comes the disaster just 45 days into the “not so” Affordable Care Act, and like some dictator who doesn’t have to consult Congress or anyone else, Obama simply waves his magical wand and declares that for the next year, “you can keep your old plan.”
But this came only after the liberal Democrat party sage Bill Clinton said the government should keep its commitments (even though he never did). Obama, on Thursday, reluctantly announced that he’d allow insurance companies to extend existing policies for one year. What? “He’d?” Ahem, do we now call him comrade dictator Obama, or is he still President? Does not Congress need to get involved here? Ted Cruz has been vindicated!
If the American people let that kind of arbitrary and unilateral change to law stand — then we are indeed ignorant and complacent enough for a dictator to rise to power in America.
We’ve wasted a trillion dollars already on ObamaCare, and all we have is a stinky pile of manure to show for it. Time to kill it in its cradle and move on with something that works. It’s called the free market.
For that one American who might wipe his brow and say hooray! Whew, that was a close one, I get to keep my old plan, thank you Mr. Obama. You’re missing the bigger picture, the most grave part of all this. The President declaring it so, has just officially become America’s dictator. Not for a second should anyone think he is doing this for them, he is doing this for himself and his party. By doing this he is declaring he cares not for the rule of law, or separation of powers, but only for the power he has amassed and wields like a Caesar.
President Obama never lets the buck stop at his desk. He casts blame elsewhere. He is only trying to save his hide and the hides of the vulnerable Democrat seats in Congress — for it’s the Democrats who are scared to death of the voters they’ll have to face on election night in 2014. Obama didn’t do this out of kindness or concern for a single American. And why would he? He hasn’t defended America, America’s interests or Americans for 5 years now.
What he has done is put them in harm’s way, then refused to send help when they have desperately called for backup and rescue.
We can only hope that after careful consideration, clear thinking and prayers, this Congress does the only thing it should do: pull the plug on ObamaCare and let it die as quickly and as painlessly as possible. It is the compassionate thing to do.
