Former Texas Governor Rick Perry Endorses Ted Cruz, Iowa Senator Joni Ernst Backs Rubio

Rick Perry and Ted Cruz

On Monday, Senator Ted Cruz unveiled his latest major endorsement (something that seems to be happening every day now), that of former Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry (R-TX).

“I support Ted Cruz for President,” said Gov. Perry. “As an Air Force Veteran, I understand the sacrifices that our men and women in the military make every day to keep us safe. They deserve a commander in chief who values their service, who will keep our military strong, and who will always put America’s national security interests first. Ted has proven that he is ready to serve as Commander in Chief on Day One. He has also proven the willingness to take on the Washington Cartel and restore power and opportunity back to the people.”

Perry will now begin a whirlwind tour of the Hawkeye State to help whip up support in Iowa for Senator Cruz ahead of next week’s Iowa caucuses. And it all starts with this ad…

Howdy, I’m Rick Perry.

2016 is a critical election and I’m here to stress to you how important it is for conservatives to rally together and support a consistent conservative candidate who will take on Washington and who can defeat the Democrat nominee.

That is why I support Ted Cruz for President.

As an Air Force Veteran, I understand the sacrifices that our men and women in the military make every day to keep us safe.

They deserve a commander in chief who values their service, who will keep our military strong, and who will always put America’s national security interests first.

He has proven that he is ready to serve as Commander in Chief on Day One.

He has also proven the willingness to take on the Washington Cartel and restore power and opportunity back to the people.

He has proven that he will do what is necessary to secure our borders, to defeat radical Islamic terrorism, and to ensure our brave veterans receive the care they have earned.

Ted is the leader that we need to reignite the promise of America.

This is why I am supporting Ted Cruz and asking Iowa Republicans to Caucus for Cruz next Monday, February 1st!

Also in Iowa on Monday, freshman Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) (who had promised not to endorse any candidate in the GOP primary) came about as close as she could to endorsing Marco Rubio without actually saying that she was endorsing him.

That was a pretty glowing introduction. In her defense, Rubio is the only GOP candidate who took the time to endorse and campaign for Joni Ernst back in 2014 when she was making her shocking run for office.

These dueling “endorsements” underline what is to me the most amazing thing about this current primary campaign. Cruz, Rubio and Jeb Bush continue to gather the lion’s share of political endorsements… and yet, they are getting trounced at the polls by a man whose only real endorsement thus far has come from Sarah Palin!?! It’s an incredible time to be covering politics in America.
