What We're Reading Eagle Rising

We hope you’re having a great day wherever you are and that the news we dig up for you this morning helps you navigate the day more efficiently!

It’s a busy world out there, and you don’t have a ton of free time to be doing Internet searches for the most important items of the day… lucky for you, we do. We drink gallons of coffee in an effort to stay awake long enough to scour the far reaches of the world wide web in an effort to bring you the most important, useful and useless information every single day.

You’re welcome.

So without further ado, here’s what we’re reading, Monday, January 4, 2016.

After Saudi Arabia (our ally) executed 47 people (including one peaceful political dissident), Iran condemned the executions. In response, Saudi Arabia has severed political ties with Iran and now protests and violence between Sunni and Shia Muslims is spreading across the Middle East.

In a related (and disgusting) event, the French Ambassador to the USA seemed to defend Iran’s decision to burn down the Saudi embassy in Tehran.

Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says the idea of religious neutrality is not found anywhere in our Constitution or in our history.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Marco Rubio (R-FL) are both battling hard to win the Mormon vote in Nevada.

Getting called an “isolationist” by Marco Rubio is NOT a bad thing; in fact, it may well be a compliment. Rubio may be the most hawkish politician we’ve seen in a very long time.

And now for our weekly dose of all things Donald Trump…

The pollsters at Roll Call wonder if “electability” will hurt Trump with GOP primary voters.

While Donald Trump’s election to the presidency becomes more of a possibility with each new passing day, the question remains: can the billionaire real estate mogul actually sway independents into his corner?

Conservative columnist Ross Douthat confessed in his most recent New York Times editorial that had had grossly underestimated Donald Trump’s powers of persuasion.

From Hillary Clinton’s Camp…

In New Hampshire the presumptive Democrat candidate for president decided to throw the families of the Benghazi dead under the bus when she practically called them all liars.

Hillary Clinton’s emails say that German chancellor Angela Merkel apparently despises Obama’s political practices.

New York’s socialist mayor, Bill De Blasio, is LAZY, Tone-Deaf and a drag on America’s most important city.

That’s weird. Denver’s marijuana business happens mostly in low-income, minority neighborhoods and is disproportionately affecting lower-income Coloradans.
