If you watched the Republican debates last month you learned that this country faces some serious challenges, not the least of which is the solvency of Social Security, the taxing of America into insolvency, and the very security of this nation. In addition, there is our ability, or inability, to negotiate the minefield that is the Middle East, and the new major influence that Russia and Vladimir Putin are exerting.
If you watched the Democrat debates you realized that things are really good and there is lots of free stuff the government wants to give you – in fact, most people who don’t have jobs can expect to be living in clover, while those nasty folks who own corporations are going to get what’s coming to them — by having what should be coming to them given to people who don’t work. What a deal. I can’t figure out why anyone would want to be a Republican.
But the problem is, this country really exemplifies that old Alsop fable about the grasshopper and the ant. One was having a really good time, not worrying about tomorrow, while the other was facing reality and trying to figure out how to deal with it. The Democratic debates were absolutely amazing to me – it was like a contest to see which candidate could give away the most stuff.
No one was concerned about the world-wide invasion of Muslims, or the possibility of an attack (in so many fashions) by numerous groups who hate America, or the Russian invasion of the Middle East, or Iran and its new nuclear weapons, or the possibility of the insolvency of major assets in America. Nope… Mostly they were saying that basically, everything is good – especially if you’re poor. If you were listening to this insanity, it was obvious that now is a really good time to be a minority of any sort (and Lord, they have gone out of their way to devise new versions of minorities).
After watching all that, I’ve decided that, if there is such a thing as reincarnation, I want to be born again as a black, gay, woman with three children (preferably from different fathers). Seriously… you’re talking about never working a day in your life! There are so many liberal agencies just stumbling over each other to give you things, it’s like winning the lottery.
But if you’re actually paying attention, you realize the “new America” comes with massive regulatory burdens and social challenges. When kid’s lemonade stands are being shut down, people are being imprisoned for holding Bible studies in their homes, or the conservation of rainwater winds you up in an extensive legal battle, there is something seriously wrong with referring to America as “Land of the Free.”
When the changing of party powers never changes the ridiculous policies, or when the accounting of future tax revenues is more than the total output of the country, you know we’ve got major problems.
At some point we have to realize that responsibility has to be a major institute in the advancement of America – that color should not be a prerequisite for anything, and restoring the principles established in the Constitution by our founding fathers is the only practical path to liberty and prosperity.
We are dancing in the streets on the cusp of disaster, praying to the idols of free money and irresponsibility, our sense of logic sacrificed to the three-horned beast of political correctness.
Watch out America, because no one gets to dance without paying the piper.
