Doesn’t it feel odd to be a conservative Republican in this day and age? We’ve been moving and agitating for the last few years in an effort to grow the party and defeat the liberal philosophies of the left.
We, the grassroots, that is, have done a tremendous job.
We’ve inspired millions of people who weren’t traditionally involved in politics to get up and get involved with us. We’ve developed an entirely new political movement, the Tea Party, which has been incredibly successful in shifting the Republican Party to the right. We have successfully unseated liberal Republicans and Democrats and replaced them with more conservative politicians.
We were so successful, that in 2010, we paved the way to one of the most historic midterm elections in the history of our nation. We gave the Republicans 63 new seats in the House of Representatives. We gave the Republicans 6 new seats in the Senate. We also handed the Republican Party the greatest turnover in state Congressional seats, ever. 680 new Republican legislators took their seats in the congressional halls of state Capitols… that was us who did that, not the Republican Party.
Now. What are the Republicans doing with the power that we have handed them? Nothing. They are doing absolutely nothing. In fact, it’s worse than that. It’s almost as if someone has planted a group of double agents within the Republican Party just to keep them from the victory that we, the voters, deserve.
Senator Mike Lee (R-UT), one of those true-blue conservatives we elected by first displacing a RINO in Utah, was on with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt recently, where he told a devastating story.
“There was allegedly a Republican Senate Conference meeting earlier this week where your colleague, Ted Cruz, took a lot of slings and arrows,” Hewitt said. “It was an all-out attack against Ted Cruz and me,” Lee disclosed. “It was unflattering. It was unfair. It was demeaning. It was demeaning to Senator Cruz and to me, but more than anything it was demeaning to those who engaged in the attacks,” he added.
Even worse, when Hewitt asked who attacked and how many attacked – Lee responded that he “lost count.” To his credit, Lee would not throw his fellow Republicans under the bus by disclosing who was attacking he and Cruz, but you can tell in his voice the sadness he felt from bearing the brunt of the verbal assaults.
In the past few months, the three Republican Senators who have done exactly as they were elected to have been Ted Cruz, Mike Lee and Rand Paul. These three have led the charge against the Democrats and President Obama throughout the summer. They have attacked time and again on winning issues – unlimited drone warfare, Obamacare, out of control spending, and the many scandals of the Obama administration. Rand Paul even had liberals siding with him (a Republican!!) against the President!
What thanks have these men gotten for their troubles? They’ve been attacked and demeaned by members of their own party. What’s going on here? The Republican Party is literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
