Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) once again demonstrated why he has become so popular among grassroots conservatives who are tired of the Boehner-McConnell leadership. On the heels of McConnell’s immoral decision to ram through reauthorization of the Export-Import Bank, Senator Cruz rose and gave an excoriating speech condemning McConnell (and other Republican leaders) as outright LIARS.
And he’s not wrong.
(The video is about 20 minutes in length but the entire speech is well worth your time.)
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) criticizes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for filing an amendment to the highway funding bill to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank and preventing senators from offering additional amendments by filling the amendment tree. He calls Senator McConnell’s actions “procedural abuse” and compares his tactics to those of now-Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) when he was majority leader. Watch the complete Senate session here.
Later, Cruz made his way to the Rush Limbaugh radio show to explain exactly what he meant and to underscore how corrupt the leadership in both parties is today.
“Back when we had the fight about trade promotion authority, I asked McConnell directly if he had cut a deal to reauthorize this cronyism and corporate welfare in order to get the votes. He looked at me and at all 54 Republican Senators and he said flat out ‘there is no deal.’
This is how Republican leadership got the votes for TPA is by promising to put taxpayers on the hook for hundreds of billions of dollars in loan guarantees that go primarily to a handful of giant corporations. It is what I refer to as the Washington Cartel.
It’s why we’re bankrupting our kids and grandkids.”
