After months of avoiding the media, Hillary Clinton found yet another way to block their access when Team Clinton literally roped the press off at a recent campaign event in Gorham, New Hampshire. The image of journalists and photographers working a rope line to catch a glimpse and a sound bite of the 2016 Democratic front-runner quickly lit up the internet. The idea that Hillary has the arrogance to treat the media like they are cattle is extremely disturbing. Moreover, the media’s willingness to go along with this treatment shows just how desperate they have become. This all begs the question, why are we letting Hillary get away with this behavior? If she treats the media like they are farm animals, how is she going to treat the American people?
Hillary responds to the criticism of her handling of the media by saying that “I am not running my campaign for the press.” She is running her campaign for the American people and the press is the conduit to the American people. If you hide from the press, you are essentially hiding from the American people. If you disrespect the press, you are disrespecting the American people. Candidate Clinton tries to position herself as an advocate for the little guy, but the reality is that she looks down on the little guy. She wants to impose her socialist vision on our country, including a plan to redistribute wealth. Furthermore, like Jonathan Gruber, she is also banking on the “stupidity of the American voter.” She is assuming that the American people will just give her a pass for Benghazi, email gate and the Clinton Foundation scandals. Unfortunately, the left’s love affair with her gives credence to her assumption. Her numbers have only started slipping recently when she fell from 60% to 52%. And of course, we simultaneously see Bernie Sanders, the Independent Senator from Vermont, gaining traction, taking 32% of the poll. But again the Sanders’ rise is a recent phenomenon. Hillary is still clutching the crown.
The media and the American people need to stand up to Hillary. They need to convey to her that her arrogance and obfuscation of the truth are not acceptable. After six years of President Obama’s failed leadership, our country needs a real leader, an individual who will empower our economy, defend our national security and protect our constitutional liberties. Most importantly, we need a president who believes in America’s greatness and in the power of the American people to work hard and improve the quality of their lives. We don’t need a President who “ropes off” those who dare to ask questions. We need a leader who can handle the tough questions, not someone who hides behind a rope or a tweet.
