Senator Ted Cruz Gives Interview to Local Texas News Station; Discusses Hillary Clinton’s Emails, Gay Marriage and Religious Liberty

This past week Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) spoke to reporters in Beaumont, Texas about his campaign for President, and, after his remarks, was kind enough to answer several questions from the local media.

Senator Cruz discussed Hillary Clinton’s series of scandals as just the normal operating procedure for the Clinton family. He also made note that it was sadly disturbing that the Clinton family’s scandalous behavior wasn’t even surprising anymore.

Then he went on to discuss the fight for religious liberty, pointing out that not too long ago religious freedom was something that everyone in both major parties could agree on. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) signed by President Bill Clinton and supported by Ted Kennedy, Chuck Schumer and almost everyone else, has now become a scandalous piece of legislation. How is that possible?

The next topic was gay marriage and the discussion of the federal governments efforts to force all 50 states to legalize gay marriage – even against the will of the voters in many states. Reporter Kevin Steele then moved on to wonder if Cruz’s conservative stands on issues could hinder his chances of winning the GOP nomination. Cruz eventually took exception with Steele’s blind focus on homosexual issues and the interview grew… intense.

TedCruzSenator Ted Cruz: Let me ask a question: Is there something about the left, and I am going to put the media in this category, that is obsessed with sex? Why is it the only question you want to ask concerns homosexuals? Okay, you can ask those questions over and over and over again. I recognize that you’re reading questions from MSNBC…

You’re wincing. You don’t want to talk about foreign policy. I recognize you want to ask another question about gay rights. Well, you know. ISIS is executing homosexuals. You want to talk about gay rights? This week was a very bad week for gay rights because the expansion of ISIS, the expansion of radical, theocratic, Islamic zealots that crucify Christians, that behead children and that murder homosexuals. That ought to be concerning you far more than asking six questions all on the same topic.

Kevin Steele: Do you have a personal animosity against gay Americans?

Senator Ted Cruz: Do you have a personal animosity against Christians sir? Your line of questioning is highly curious. You seem fixated on a particular subject. Look, I’m a Christian. Scripture commands us to love everybody and what I have been talking about, with respect to same-sex marriage, is the Constitution which is what we should all be focused on. The Constitution gives marriage to elected state legislators. It doesn’t give the power of marriage to a president, or to unelected judges to tear down the decisions enacted by democratically elected state legislatures.

I, personally, am so thankful for principled politicians like Ted Cruz (and Rand Paul) who can face withering fire from the media (and opponents – but I repeat myself) and hold firm to their convictions. Cruz did not waver, he did not waffle; he took difficult questions about unpopular topics and answered them truthfully, thoughtfully and as positively as he could. In no way were his answers spiteful, hateful or rude – he has exerted effort to show that he bears no personal grudge against anyone… but still the media has worked to distort his views as hateful and homophobic.

Senator Cruz continues to prove his mettle on the campaign trail. The GOP would do well to select him as their nominee for President in 2016.
