A little over a week ago, it was reported that Houston’s lesbian Mayor Annise Parker put forth the argument via city attorneys that pastors in the case dealing with her administration’s illegal actions have no right to a jury trial. Now, the pastors are stripping the mask off the mayor and claiming that she has been engaged in deception “every step of the way” in the case against them and in the defense of the At a news conference, Parker stated that she would “do whatever we need to do to defend the position.”
“Our hope is the [jury] will review the facts of the petitions, look at the law carefully and come to the conclusion that the city secretary did, in fact, properly validate the signatures,” Welch told Bob Unruh of WND.
“We’ve been very open in our assertion that the mayor and the city attorney have been deceptive, literally at every step of the way,” he added.
The judge in the case rejected the city’s request that a jury trial be bypassed in favor of a “special master.”
“She is supposed to represent the people. And yet, she has, in this case, done everything in her power to block and mute the people from any involvement in this ill-conceived bathroom ordinance,” Andy Taylor, attorney for the plaintiffs, told the Christian Post in regards to Mayor Parker.
This brings us to a statement issued by the Houston Area Pastor Council on January 15 in a press release.
Houston, TX – Texas Civil District Court Judge Robert Schaeffer posted his decision late Tuesday denying the City of Houston’s attempt to eliminate the jury trial for the lawsuit brought by citizens and pastors challenging the City’s invalidation of over 50,000 signatures submitted to repeal the “Equal Rights Ordinance” passed by city council. The coalition of pastors who helped organize the opposition to the ordinance and the gathering of the signatures was very pleased with Judge Schaeffer’s decision.
“The continued and increasingly desperate attempts by Mayor Parker, her City Attorney David Feldman and their legion of high powered attorneys to keep any decision regarding this ordinance out of the hands of ordinary Houston citizens has reached a new low by the assault on the right to trial by jury,” stated the No UNequal Rights Coalition leadership. “The Mayor declared last week that she considers it a normal legal tactic just like subpoenas, so what we again witness is an administration willing to go to any lengths to deprive the citizens having a voice on this issue that threatens the religious freedom and public safety of Houston citizens,” the coalition added.
The trial itself is scheduled to begin January 20 and the coalition leadership expressed optimism in the process and outcome of the trial. “In spite of an historic and unrelenting attack by Mayor Parker on the basic voting and First Amendment rights of Houston citizens, we believe the facts will prove what City Secretary Anna Russell has confirmed twice; that we did meet the charter standards, submitted valid signatures and that this should go to a vote of the people,” they concluded.
Previously, the mayor and the city backed off when the story went national. They withdrew their subpoena for pastor’s sermons. However, the mayor’s offices were flooded with Bibles and sermons from around the globe and the pastors called her move a “head fake,” declaring that it was not enough.
I applaud the stand of the pastors, but the reality is that this lawless woman (Yes, she is lawless as she has already illegally authorized same-sex “marriage” benefits in violation of the Texas Constitution) was not dealt with before. So, she is going to continue her deception and her illegal activities, including her sexual perversion, until the people of Houston deal with her.
Here’s hoping that the people of Houston will seek a recall of this lawless woman.
