House Passes Keystone XL Bill – Will the President Veto? UPDATE: Senate Does Too – Roll Call Added

The House of Representatives has now passed the Keystone XL Pipeline bill for the 10th time.

Think about that… they’ve approved the Bill 10 TIMES.

That is a lot of obstructionism from Senate Democrats and President Obama. The bill is far-more bipartisan than most of the legislation taken up by Democrats in Congress over the last 8 years. In fact, 28 Democrats crossed the aisle to vote with Republicans for the pipeline.

The legislation will now move to the Senate, which also seems very likely to approve of the bill. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has already given tacit approval when he voted to move the bill out of committee and before the full Senate.

Of Course, the obstructionist President is threatening to veto the pipeline. Why? He claims it’s the environment.

In 2013, President Obama said he would only approve the pipeline if it did not significantly increase U.S. carbon dioxide emissions — a finding already made by his own State Department.

keystone pipelineSo the pipeline won’t increase US carbon dioxide emissions. What now? Well, opponents say it transfers the “dirtiest” form of fossil fuel, oil from Canada’s tar sands. Here’s the thing, while the oil may be “dirty”, it’s going to be used whether or not the pipeline is built. So we aren’t stopping it from being used be refusing to build the pipeline. However, if we build the pipeline, we can actually make it more environmentally friendly! Travelling by pipeline is safer and has less environmental impact than transporting the oil by truck, boat or any other method. The pipeline is actually the better choice for the environment… but still Obama and the Democrats obstruct.

The Democrats also say that the pipeline will only create 35 permanent jobs. This may be true, but it leaves out the hundreds of jobs that will be created to build the pipeline over the next several years. But that’s not the point.

While the Pipeline may only create 35 jobs DIRECTLY, it will create thousands of jobs indirectly by helping keep energy costs lower. Pumping oil directly from Canada will assure a cheap and reliable energy source for years to come. The pipeline will be a HUGE economic boon to our entire nation.

The point is that the Democrats reasons for not having the pipeline built are all complete nonsense. This is simply an offering to their liberal environmentalist base and an effort to obstruct the Republican attempts to improve the economy.

Reason TV did a great video on why we should build the pipeline.

It’s time for the Obstructionism to end and for the government to get out of the way of progress. Stop playing games and get the pipeline built.

UPDATE: The Senate has passed their version of Keystone XL Pipeline bill as well. The bipartisanship was on display in the Senate as well – 10 Democrats and one liberal independent also voted to approve the bill and send it to the President to be signed. In case you’re wondering that means that this is likely the most bipartisan bill to pass the legislature in YEARS… and yet the President says he will likely VETO it. That is Democrat/Obama politics for you America.

A bipartisan bill introduced by Sens. John Hoeven of North Dakota (R) and Joe Manchin of West Virginia (D) to approve Keystone XL got 63 votes, enough to overcome a filibuster and move forward. The legislation attracted nine (other) Democrats, but failed to get enough liberal lawmakers to block a presidential veto should the bill pass.

“We have everything to gain by building this pipeline, especially since it would help create thousands of jobs right here at home and limit our dependence on foreign oil,” said Manchin, a Democrat. “Every state – including West Virginia – would benefit economically from this activity. It is my sincere hope that we can once and for all move forward with this important project.”

Here is the roll call vote, so you can see how your Senator voted.
