Three Americans Killed in Terrorist Attack in Jerusalem

On Tuesday a pair of Muslim terrorists walked into a peaceful Jerusalem synagogue and began murdering innocent parishioners. Two Palestinian men armed with a gun and butcher knives attacked the helpless people during their morning prayers. The murdering cowards killed three people who held dual citizenship in the US and Israel and one British-Israeli citizen as well as a police officer.

The four worshippers killed were all rabbis: Avraham Shmuel Goldberg, 58; Aryeh Kupinsky, 43; Moshe Twersky, 59; and Kalman Levine, 55. Only Goldberg was not American. The deaths of three Americans means that the FBI is looking into the attack in an attempt to determine of the two men were helped by others – in an effort to bring someone to justice for the murder of three Americans.

A fellow rabbi said this of the murdered men, “When four great men, wonderful men, wise in Torah study, are slaughtered while praying in public, there is no public grieving greater than that.”

Police were eventually able to corner the villains and kill them before they could harm anyone else.

Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to the nation just hours after the attack. In his remarks he called for unity against, “those human animals who committed this massacre” and against those — singling out Hamas, the Islamic movement and the Palestinian Authority — who he claims “disseminate libels against the state of Israel.”

“There are those who wish to uproot us from the capital, from our land,” he said, referring to Jerusalem. “They will not be successful… We have to unify forces.”

palestinian terrorist attackHe continued by commenting that the Palestinian Authority is not doing enough to stop the violence. “(Abbas) does not send out terrorists, he doesn’t directly encourage acts of terror, and this is good,” the Netanyahu said, echoing an assessment by an Israeli security chief. “On the other hand, the incitement of the Palestinian Authority — and he heads the Palestinian Authority — and even some things he says … encourage terrorism, in terms of incitement (of) tensions that run high.”

President Obama gave a statement condemning the attack, but then seemingly laying some of the blame at Israel’s feet.

“Tragically, this is not the first loss of life that we have seen in recent months. Too many Israelis have died, too many Palestinians have died. And at this difficult time, I think it’s important for both Palestinians and Israelis to work together to lower tensions and reject violence.”

Thankfully the American Ambassador to Israel, Dan Shapiro, was far clearer in his condemnation of the attack by a pair of Islamic terrorists, calling the attacks,  “a barbaric new low in the sad and outrageous history of such attacks.”

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) may have said it best though, in giving his condolences to Israel while also standing firmly against the Islamist terrorist threat.

I am deeply saddened and alarmed by the attacks that took place early this morning in Israel. These men of faith were cruelly murdered as they were worshiping in their synagogue in Har Nof. I vow to Stand with Israel and I will continue to do all I can to protect Americans at home and abroad. This is a horrific act of violence that should be universally condemned. We must demand that Palestinian leaders stop the incitement, which they have committed in word and in deed. My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Israel.”

This latest attack continues the long train of Islamic assault upon the free world. Sadly, if you watch the news with any regularity, these attacks by Islamic extremists are becoming ubiquitous, and many of our fellow Americans seem to be tuning out the violence. This kind of purposeful blindness towards the dangers of Islam only creates an even more dangerous situation for us. Don’t let the steady stream of Islamic violence inure you to what is happening out there folks; we must continue to stand for liberty, justice and peace even as the Islamic World seeks to destroy these things.
