In Ohio a despicable thug had a really rough day, which began when he broke into a suburban Ohio home.
It all began early one morning when Brian Hiner’s barking dog woke him up. While checking to see what was causing the animal to bark, he heard something behind him, coming up the basement steps. It was too dark for him to see anything, but he quickly moved into action. Hiner grabbed his gun, called 911 and told the intruder not to move.
Police arrived and arrested the criminal, one Michael Roberts, but while they were talking to Hiner, Roberts escaped from the police car and fled into a nearby cornfield.
Roberts eventually arrived at a nearby home where 15-year-old Justin Kugler was home from school because of sickness.
“I was home sending an email to my teachers about homework when my dogs started barking and I looked out the window but I didn’t see anybody there so I went to the top of the stairs with the gun to make sure there wasn’t anybody downstairs and then that’s when the door opened and I saw him.”
The young man was scared because he noticed that Roberts had a knife, but he knew that being at the top of the stairs and holding a gun he was in a good position. Kugler told the intruder to leave the house or he would shoot him. Roberts wisely walked out. Just outside the Kugler home, Roberts was again apprehended by police.
“Guns have always been an important thing in our family and he knew what to do when the problem came up,” said Jarrett Kugler, Justin Kugler’s older brother.
“I feel pretty good about it that I could have saved other people’s houses and their property,” said Justin Kugler.
Here’s the local news story.
Don’t let liberals fool you with their nonsense arguments on guns. The statistics, the facts, do not lie. Guns save more innocent people every year than they kill. Studies have shown that; Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year — or about 6,850 times a day. This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives.
Imagine what might have happened to that young boy if this 26-year-old man had broken into the home and found the boy defenseless?
Guns are dangerous and should be treated respectfully, but guns are also vitally important to one’s defense. Instead of treating gun owners, and firearms themselves as pariahs, we should be educating all of our citizens to use them properly and to use them safely. Even as guns become more ubiquitous throughout American society, crime rates continue to drop. If the correlation that liberals suggest existed, the more guns that became available – the higher the crime rate should rise. That just isn’t happening.
Guns save lives. And that’s something we should all be supporting.
