I recently wrote about why I choose to affiliate with the Republican Party over other organizations. Well, I wanted to follow that up and explain why I often vote “against” Democrats as opposed to “for” Republicans. It’s probably not surprising to you that my distaste for the Democrat Party comes first from philosophical differences. But it is also driven by specific ideology as well. As I view the Democrat Party today, I am immediately impacted by three major philosophies: moral relativism, socialism and cultural socialism.
Let me quickly skim over what I mean – perhaps, one day we can elucidate these more clearly together.
Moral Relativism – the modern Democrat Party holds to no absolutes. Each man must decide what is right in his own heart, and the “old” idea of morality is a thing of the past. The Judeo-Christian ethics our nation was founded upon have become passé notions in the minds of modern Democrats. To make matter worse, they use our moral traditions when it suits them and discard them when they are no longer of use. It is the height of hypocrisy.
Socialism – the modern Democrat Party values the ideals of socialism over all others. Their leader said it like this, “When you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.” This perspective carries over into all things. The modern Democrat eschews private property for the “greater good.” The idea may be best encapsulated with this thought, “You didn’t build that.” To the Democrat Party today, everyone has a hand in everyone else’s accomplishments – gone are the valued ethics of hard work, rugged individualism, and personal responsibility … all replaced by the herd mentality.
Cultural Socialism – we can describe this a number of ways, but I want to use this definition… “It is state management of the culture. What you can smoke. What you can drink, what your relationship to favored and unfavored groups or individuals should be. It is epitomized in Orwell’s novel “1984” by the daily two minutes of hate against Emmanuel Goldstein. And don’t forget that love for Big Brother is mandatory.” The drive against sugary drinks, salty foods, MSG, tobacco, etc is driven in large part by the nanny state left. Now, to be sure, there are some places where both parties dip their toe into these waters (Republicans in the war on drugs), but the Democrats are always seeking to better society by creating more restrictive laws. (Seat belts, sin taxes, smoking laws, sugary drinks bans, etc.)
These are foundational beliefs that I can in no way reconcile myself to. It literally means I cannot support Democrat candidates, because it leads democrat candidates to do and say things like this.
Chris Murphy (D-CT) shows how Democrats despise our “guaranteed” rights. Chris Murphy said that gun rights are not “God-given” and “any claim that the Founding Fathers wanted U.S. citizens armed so they could repel a tyranny ‘is insane’…The Second Amendment is not an absolute right, not a God-given right. It has always had conditions upon it like the First Amendment has.” If you’ve been paying attention over the last few months the government led by Democrats has taken an axe to our 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Amendment rights. The Democrats just don’t care about our rights – they simply use them to beat upon Republican politicians.
Keith Ellison (D-MN) shows how Democrats believe that the money made by individuals is not necessarily theirs to keep. “The bottom line is we’re not broke… There’s plenty of money, it’s just the government doesn’t have it.” I cannot stomach the philosophy that says it’s okay for some people to take other peoples private property simply because they think its for the best.
Mark Pryor (D-AR) shows how Democrats will lie to cover their failings. He recently raved about how Obamacare has “been an amazing success story”, leaving out the fact that other Arkansas based hospitals have been decimated by the new healthcare law. Pryor and his comrades have a vested interest in the creation of a socialist utopia that can actually never be, and so they will lie, cheat and steal to make sure it comes to fruition.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. Every day Democrats say and do things that are much more abhorrent to my personal beliefs and values. I could no more support an orthodox Democrat candidate than I could a mild socialist, an mainline communist or a extreme fascist.
The Democrat philosophy is simply anathema to my very core.
